System Administrator

A financial services company is looking for a full time systems administrator to provide technical hardware support for its staff and internal development team. PHP/MySQL software is developed in-house by the company's development team and is used to provide time-sensitive solutions to clients, (including all the major banking institutions).

The roles cover installing, supporting, and maintaining servers or other computer systems, and planning for and responding to service outages and other problems. Other duties may include scripting or light programming, project management for systems-related projects, supervising or training computer operators, and being the consultant for computer problems beyond the knowledge of technical support staff.

Further to this, the role will involve the co-ordination for the development and management of a hardware platform to enable the use of on-line systems in a secure and speedy fashion. Existing web-based services will be deployed on these platforms to provide efficient delivery of financial services.

Internal management responsibilities:

• Performing routine audits of systems and software.
• Performing backups.
• Applying operating system updates, patches, and configuration changes.
• Installing and configuring new hardware and software.
• Adding, removing, or updating user account information, resetting passwords, etc.
• Answering technical queries.
• Responsibility for security.
• Responsibility for documenting the configuration of the system.
• Troubleshooting any reported problems.
• System performance tuning.
• Insuring that the network infrastructure is up and running.

Website management responsibilities:

• Development of hardware platform for on-line business services;
• Maintaining availability of on-line services;
• Security of on-line services; and
• Contingency strategies for on-line services.

Business development responsibilities:

• Source and recommend hardware architecture;
• Co-ordinate implementation of hardware; and
• Develop management and feedback loops for monitoring systems and usage of systems.

Current hardware:

• Windows Server;
• Windows XP Desktops;
• Cisco Routers & IP Phone System; and
• LAMP Server Environment

Suitable qualifications or experience is necessary and experience in cluster deployment and management is favourable.
